Two mounted figures ride near the animals while a shepherd or herder stands nearby gesturing. Tall, slender trees with detailed foliage rise from the riverbank toward a sky with a few birds, framing a distant hilltop with a cluster of buildings including a tower or castle. Dense wooded areas and clusters of bushes occupy the middle ground, and a small bridge or causeway spans the water beneath the trees. The scene is rendered with fine ink and wash strokes, varying tones, and cross-hatching to show texture and shading.
