Along the waterfront a group of robed figures stand and converse on wide stone steps and a quay, while others carry goods or sit near boats. On the right a large classical building with columns, rounded upper stories, and stairways rises behind trees, with additional architectural facades and balconies visible. Decorative carved figureheads and sculptural details appear on the prow of a large ship at the left, and scattered cargo, timber, and coiled ropes lie on the quay foreground. The sky is lightly sketched with wispy clouds and the overall composition emphasizes architectural and nautical elements rendered in fluid ink lines and wash.
