A stone quay runs along the left side where a large classical building with tall columns and a rounded portico stands, steps leading down to the water and groups of people gathered and walking. Smaller boats and rowboats with occupants are near the shore and tied to the quay. Workers on the foreground shore handle stacked goods and barrels while others lift or pull ropes and small vessels. On the right, more ships are drawn close together beside leafy trees rising behind the waterfront. The overall image is rendered in line and wash with detailed architectural elements, figures in period clothing, and maritime equipment visible throughout.
