Stone steps lead up to raised entrances with balustrades and carved newel posts, and small figures stand on or near the steps and in doorways. To the right, a large leafy tree extends into the composition, and a low wall or fence separates a shadowed area with more figures. The sky is filled with finely hatched clouds, and the whole scene is bordered by a rectangular frame.
