Trees rise behind parts of the quay and several sailing vessels and small boats are moored or anchored near the shore, their masts and rigging visible and one flag flying from a mast. In the foreground choppy water fills the lower portion of the image, and a small rowboat with people seated inside is shown close to the right edge. The sky above is filled with large, textured clouds and a few small birds scattered through the air. The overall palette is monochrome with delicate crosshatching and linear shading throughout.
