Leiden: Quirinum Visscher, Amsterdam: Arent van Huyssteen, 1734., city-gate, bridge, Enkhuizen, Koepoort (Enkhuizen), A detailed ink drawing shows a riverside scene with a domed gatehouse topped by a small cupola and a weather vane shaped like an animal, connected to a riverside walkway and a small square tower with arched windows; figures stand and walk near the entrance while a man on horseback emerges from beneath the arch. A wooden drawbridge with vertical supports spans the water and a carriage drawn by a horse crosses it, accompanied by other small figures on the bridge. Trees and clustered buildings with pitched roofs and chimneys appear behind the gatehouse, and a group of riders gallop along a distant shoreline. On the water a small boat carries three seated figures and cargo, while swans and reflections are visible on the rippled surface. The sky is filled with layered clouds rendered in fine parallel lines.
