The street is busy with numerous small figures in period clothing, some standing and talking in pairs or groups, others walking, and a few carrying baskets on their heads; market stalls and tables with goods extend along the center of the street with people gathered around them. In the foreground a few figures are more prominent, including pairs in long cloaks and a small dog walking on the pavement. The sky above is filled with softly hatched clouds and a few faint birds. The overall image is detailed with fine line work indicating brick and stone textures on the buildings and tiny architectural decorations around windows and arches.
