Amsterdam: Hendrik Bosch, 1721., fortress, Leiden, Burcht van Leiden, A sepia-toned engraving shows a stone fortified wall with battlements and a walkway along its top where several cloaked figures and a hat-wearing person are standing or walking; below the wall are arched openings leading into dark recesses and a curved ramp or stairway descending beside the arches; two figures stand leaning on a low parapet near one arch while other small groups of people are visible further along the walkway; the left foreground includes textured foliage and small trees at the base of the wall and a gently sloping ground with shaded patches; the sky is rendered with horizontal lines and soft cloud shapes, and the entire scene is composed of fine crosshatching and linear engraving marks.
