In the foreground on a paved square are horse-drawn carriages, horses in motion, and small groups of people walking or standing in period dress, some in pairs and some clustered near the carriages. The sky above is filled with large billowing clouds rendered with fine horizontal and crosshatched lines. The scene is monochrome with detailed line work throughout.
