Long, ornate hedged walkways extend outward from the obelisk toward the foreground and sides, bordered by low patterned fences and decorative urn-topped gateways. On each side of the scene, multi-story buildings with arched windows rise, and a distant landscape of rolling hills, clustered buildings, and a church dome appears behind the obelisk. Clouds of smoke or stylized vapors rise near the right building, and rows of slender cypress-like trees line the garden paths. The image is rendered in fine cross-hatched black ink lines on a light background, with a horizontal band of text beneath the illustration and a short title line near the top.
