Hooipper, print, printmaker: Pieter Dupont, North Holland, c. 1894 - c. 1895, paper, zinkets, intaglio printmaking technique, height 155 mm x width 155 mm, hay-stack, A tall mound of densely layered thatch fills most of the frame, its textured strands rendered with fine, dark hatch lines and bound in horizontal bands, with several short sticks protruding from the surface and a small bundle at the apex; to the right of the mound a slender tree with delicate branches and small leaves stands near the edge, and soft curving cloud shapes appear in the background sky; the foreground shows flowing, wave-like patterns of thatch and ground with intricate linework, all on a pale, slightly mottled paper.
