In the foreground a procession of mounted soldiers and footmen advances toward the gate, many wearing period clothing and helmets and carrying long lances and standards; some riders gesture or look toward each other. To the right of the gate a small cluster of buildings and a lone tree sit near a gently sloping landscape with scattered trees and bushes. Along the bottom edge decorative lettering and lines appear as part of the print. The sky is filled with fine horizontal hatch marks and the whole scene is rendered in dense line work with crosshatching for shading.
