Men carry standards and flags, march in formation, and cluster around defensive breastworks and palisades. Small groups of officers on horseback appear to direct troops, and individual soldiers rest or prepare arms amid scattered shields and bundles. The overall tone is busy and regimented, rendered in fine line work and hatching across the landscape.
