The horse has a glossy dark coat with a white blaze on its face, a bridle with metal fittings, and a saddle draped with a light sheepskin pad edged in red and a dark rectangular cloth at the rear. The background is a pale, unadorned expanse and the ground beneath the horse shows patches of grass and bare earth.
