View of a castle near a city, Templates for Landscape Artists, Examples for the Landscape Artist, print, Series number, 12, printmaker: Max Josef Wagenbauer, 1823, paper, lithography, height 368 mm x width 295 mm, Part of a two-part series, the second part of which consists of a title print and twelve depictions of branches, leaves, trees, and landscapes., landscape with tower or castle, A detailed pencil drawing shows a rural scene with a dirt path leading past stacked logs and wooden fences toward a cluster of timber-roofed houses and small outbuildings. Trees with textured foliage rise beside the buildings, and shrubs and low vegetation fill the foreground and spaces between structures. In the middle distance a multi-towered stone castle sits atop a rocky rise, its walls and windows rendered with fine linear shading. Rooflines, chimneys, and small steeples punctuate the village, and felled tree trunks lie in the grassy area near the path. The sky above is mostly empty, leaving the architectural and natural elements as the primary visual focus.
