View of Falun and Hedemora, Falun, Hedemora, Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, print, album page, printmaker: Erik Reitz, supervision: Erik Jönssen Dahlberg, 1696, paper, etching, height 254 mm x width 380 mm, city-view in general, 'veduta', Dalarna, A wide engraved panorama shows a coastal town and surrounding landscape divided into two horizontal sections. In the upper section a shoreline with small sailing vessels is bordered by a settlement of clustered buildings and a prominent church with a tall spire; fields, fences, scattered people, animals, and mounds of earth fill the foreground while cloud formations stretch across the sky. In the lower section a dense townscape of tightly packed houses and roofs extends toward the horizon, with a tall church steeple rising above the buildings, a wooden structure in the foreground near a fence, horse-drawn carts and figures on the road, cultivated plots and rows of plants, and layered clouds overhead. Overall the scene is rendered in fine etched lines with detailed textures for roofs, water, fields, and clouds.
