This print is part of an album., printmaker: Theodorus van Kessel, Southern Netherlands, after painting by Titian, Italy, publisher: David Teniers (II), Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish Crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 172 mm x width 230 mm, The print was produced after a painting by Titian that is in the collection of the Marquess of Bath, Longleat House (Yorkshire). David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of every painting in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as models for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., rest on the flight into Egypt, Holy Family (alone), 'Trinitas terrestris', A black and white engraving shows a seated woman holding a baby close to her chest while a bearded man in robes sits nearby on a rock, both positioned beneath a large tree with visible trunk and foliage; the woman wears a long flowing dress with drapery folds and bare feet, the baby is unclothed and turning toward her, and the man has a cloak draped over his shoulders and rests one hand on the rock; in the background a rocky hillside rises with trees and a building perched on the cliff, and a small pair of figures appear near the base of the hill, while the sky is rendered with horizontal lines and there are additional trees and textured ground in the foreground.
