This print is part of an album., printmaker: Jan van Troyen, Southern Netherlands (possibly), after painting by David Teniers (II), after painting by Titian, Italy, after painting by anonymous, Venice, Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 166 mm x width 117 mm, David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his workshop. The left portrait shows a bearded man facing slightly to his right, wearing a patterned garment with a fur-lined collar and a textured background of closely spaced dots and lines. His right hand grasps the fur at his chest. The right portrait shows another bearded man facing slightly to his left, wearing a dark robe with a wide fur collar and a rounded cap; one hand rests on a flat surface while the other is positioned near his waist, and the background is composed of fine horizontal and vertical lines. The paper around the portraits has age spots and uneven discoloration.
