David Teniers likely produced an oil study on canvas or panel (known as a pasticcio) of every painting in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as models for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., Two engraved portraits printed side by side on aged paper show seated men framed by dark crosshatched backgrounds. The figure on the left is an older man with shoulder-length wavy hair, a lined face, and a contemplative expression, wearing a dark robe with a lighter collar and holding an object in his hand. The figure on the right is a bearded man with dark hair and a serious gaze, wearing a heavy fur-trimmed cloak and holding folded sheets of paper in one hand while the other hand rests on his knee. The paper around the portraits shows spotting and discolored areas.
