This print is part of an album., printmaker: Jan van Troyen, Southern Netherlands (possibly), after painting by David Teniers, after painting by Padovanino, Italy, Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 223 mm x width 173 mm, David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., Mary weeping, A monochrome engraving of a seated woman wearing a draped head covering and layered robes, shown from the waist up. Her headscarf frames her face and falls over her shoulders, and her robes have visible folds and textured shading. She looks slightly upward with a neutral expression. Her hands are clasped together in front of her, and the background is a densely hatched dark field framed by a lighter border.
