This print is part of an album., printmaker: Lucas Vorsterman (II), Antwerp, after painting by David Teniers (II), Southern Netherlands, after painting by Jacopo Palma (il Giovane), Italy, Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish Crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 228 mm x width 175 mm, David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of all the paintings in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as a model for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his workshop. Not all pasticci have survived., the apostle Paul of Tarsus, possible attributes: book, scroll, sword, A monochrome engraved portrait of a bearded man shown from the waist up, turned slightly to his left, wearing draped robes and a visible belt; his right hand rests on the handle of a large sword or cross-like object while his left hand is raised with fingers slightly curled; he has short curly hair, a long full beard, and a solemn facial expression with downcast eyes; the background is densely hatched shading and the composition is framed by a narrow border.
