This print is part of an album., printmaker: Theodorus van Kessel, Southern Netherlands, after painting by Schiavone, Italy, publisher: David Teniers (II), Brussels, grantor of privilege: Spanish crown, 1660, paper, etching, height 230 mm x width 168 mm, The print was produced after the painting by Schiavone which is in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (inventory number GG_115). David Teniers probably produced an oil study on canvas or panel (so-called pasticcio) of every painting in the collection of Leopold William of Austria, which served as models for the printmakers. It is not always clear whether the pasticci were made by him or by his studio. Not all pasticci have survived., (story of) Cupid, Amor (Eros), (story of) Apollo (Phoebus), A monochrome etched scene shows a bearded man with shoulder-length hair wearing a draped tunic and strap, standing barefoot on rocky ground beside a large tree trunk and pointing with one hand while holding a curved object in the other; a small winged child stands nearby facing the man with one arm raised and holding a similar curved object, and a reclining animal lies at the man's feet; the background features low rolling hills and dense shrubbery beneath a lightly lined sky.
