Several standing men wear helmets and point spears or swords toward figures kneeling and leaning forward on steps, their clothing draped in folds and their heads bowed. One kneeling figure grips a pole while another in scale armor bends forward, a round shield hanging at his side. Architectural elements of arches and a heavy curtained canopy surround the scene, and the composition is rendered with fine parallel hatching and crosshatching to indicate shadows and texture.
