Below the platform a group of men in period clothing and helmets are gathered, some gesturing upward and one kneeling while holding a pole. On the left a man with a broad-brimmed hat stands with his back turned, a tall wooden cross and other poles lean against the wall behind him, and a small cluster of heads and faces appear near the platform edge. The composition is densely hatched with fine lines, showing folds in garments, textured hair and beards, architectural moldings around the arch, and wooden planks on the platform.
