Vermandel in Amsterdam, 1781 (the third edition)., Person, Cristóbal de Mondragón y Otalora, Eighty Years' War, Middelburg, Period, A detailed black and white engraving shows two men in period clothing clasping hands near a large draped curtain, one wearing ornate armor and a ruffled collar and the other in a cloak and breeches; a dog stands between them looking forward. To the left a musician blows a long trumpet while a small group of onlookers in similar attire stand behind. Behind the figures a large bare-branched tree stretches across the scene and its trunk and branches fill much of the upper area. The drapery cascades from a rounded canopy on the right and folds in heavy pleats, and the ground beneath the figures is textured with shadows and lines.
