He wears knee-length breeches with stockings and buckled shoes, and an ornate cuff and lace trim are visible at his sleeves. At the man's feet a small dog sits on a textured surface, looking up toward him. In the background to the right there is a group of smaller figures gathered and conversing near a tree, and a man on horseback is visible among them. The image is rendered in black ink on aged, speckled paper with fine hatching and cross-hatching lines creating shadows and texture.
