Artist's Gathering in Munich, Artists' Gathering in Munich, print, printmaker: Ludwig Emil Grimm, c. 1812, paper, etching, height 183 mm x width 355 mm, Central to this depiction is 'Noah's Thanksgiving Offering'. With this painting, the Austrian painter Joseph Anton Koch (1768-1839) won the prize of the Munich Academy in 1814(?). In remembrance of this, Grimm etched this fictional gathering of artists discussing against a background of antique sculptures. The third figure on the right is probably Ludwig Grimm himself., dog, artist at work, in his workshop, exhibition, art, Laocoon and his twin sons are strangled by two serpents during the preparations for a sacrifice, A crowded interior scene rendered in a sepia-toned etching shows a group of people gathered around a framed painting on an easel, with two figures standing with their backs toward the viewer in long cloaks and one holding a hat. Around them, men in period dress including coats, capes, top hats, and military-style uniforms converse and inspect the artwork, some leaning forward or pointing. To the left, an artist works at an easel with a palette, while a lute rests on a low table and a dog lies on the floor nearby. Sculptural figures and a large classical statue are visible against the background wall, and a heavy draped curtain frames the left side. On the right, seated and standing figures cluster closely, one seated person reading from a book, and another small dog rests on the floor in front. Decorative armor and weapons, including helmets and a spear-like object, appear on the far right wall, and the wooden floorboards run toward the foreground.
