Along the near bank there are coiled ropes and timber planks scattered on the ground, a low quay or jetty with a flagpole rising from it, and a cluster of figures and a horse near a large covered cart. On the far bank a row of buildings of varying heights lines the shore, and additional boats and upright masts are visible in the water. The sky is filled with textured, streaked cloud patterns created by short, curved hatch marks.
