He holds a tall ornate candlestick with a decorative top in one hand and the deer’s reins in the other, while a bell hangs from the deer's neck. The deer’s head is turned slightly toward the viewer, its textured fur and detailed antlers prominent, and the lower portion of both figures shows draped fabric, boots, and the animals’ slender legs on a simple ground. The background is plain and unadorned.
