The top part has been pasted higher, so that the sky has become higher and the size of the image matches the other large-format images in the album., palace, Palais du Luxembourg, A wide formal garden with symmetrically arranged parterres and pathways fills the foreground, populated by many small figures in period dress strolling or gathered in groups; a central fountain rises among circular and rectangular green beds, and low hedges form ornate patterns. Behind the garden stands a large multi-story stone palace with a central pavilion, mansard roofs, numerous windows and chimneys, and flanking wings. Smaller buildings and trees appear at the sides, and two larger trees frame the scene at left and right edges. Above, a vast sky occupies most of the composition, painted in soft pastel bands and large rounded cloud forms in pale blues, pinks, and creams.
