Topographia Galliae, oder Beschreibung und Contrafaitung der vornehmbsten und bekantisten Oerter in dem mächtigen und grossen Königreich Frankreich, 13 vols. Frankfurt am Main: Caspar Merian, 1655-1661. The print was first published in part 1: Topographia Galliae, 1655. The print is torn off along the top edge of the image. The title is posted higher. The scene is supplemented at the top with a painted sky, castle, Château de Berny, A pastel sky with bands of blue, pink, and yellow and soft purple cloud shapes fills most of the image above a detailed stone chateau with mansard roofs, chimneys, and many windows. In front of the chateau are trimmed lawns, pathways, trees with green and yellow foliage, and a low brick wall with steps and balustrades. Small human figures in period clothing walk on the lawns and paths; some are near the wall and some near the building. A few smaller outbuildings and distant structures appear beyond the main chateau. The foreground shows a grassy area with a leaning tree and exposed roots.
