Garden path with willows (original title), print, printmaker: Floris Verster, 1871 - 1927, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 139 mm x width 200 mm, garden, road, path, trees: willow, A monochrome etching shows a landscape with tangled, leafless trees and gnarled branches in the foreground, their dark, sinuous trunks and twigs contrasted against a lighter, textured sky. A winding path curves through the scene, bordered at one edge by a simple metal fence with vertical posts and horizontal rails. In the middle distance, dense clusters of shrubs and foliage create massed, intricate linework, while a few taller, narrow trees rise further back. The horizon is low and distant, with faint, sketchy landforms and a thin band of water suggested near the middle ground. Delicate, crosshatched shading and varied line densities give the image a weathered, grainy appearance overall.
