Le Charivari was a humorous newspaper with caricatures and (political) cartoons., caricatures (human types), (story of) Telemachus, Telemachus starts out with Mentor, in search of his father, An elderly man with a long beard and a headscarf tied at the back leans forward from a rocky ledge, wearing a loose short-sleeved shirt and a flowing robe that drapes down over his legs and feet; his posture is bent and his facial features are drawn with deep lines and a prominent nose. Opposite him, legs and feet of another figure are visible kicking upward, the legs thin and angled with toes pointed, while hands reach upward from below the frame. The scene is rendered in detailed pencil or charcoal lines with shading that defines folds in fabric and the rocky surface beneath the standing man. The background is mostly blank with faint textured horizontal shading. There is a small signature near the lower left and an area of printed columns faintly visible behind the drawing.
