Josi, 1821., landscape with bridge, viaduct or aqueduct, Rome, Milvian bridge, A sepia-toned ink wash drawing shows a riverside scene with an arched stone bridge extending from the left toward a fortified tower near the center, the tower rising above battlemented walls and featuring arched openings. Small human figures stand and sit on the bridge and along the riverbank, and a rowboat with several people in it is moored at the shore where a cloaked figure gestures toward the boat. Barrels and bags sit on the ground near the water, and a few people are seated or standing along the bank. Trees with dense foliage occupy the right side of the image, their reflections visible in the water, and distant low hills form a faint backdrop beyond the tower. The composition is rendered in warm brown ink with delicate shading and line work.
