View of Rotterdam, print, In the foreground two sailboats in front of a bridge. In the background the tower of the St. Lawrence Church., printmaker: Mommie Schwarz (signed by artist), 1886 - 1931, paper, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, height 142 mm x width 166 mm, sailing-ship, sailing-boat, canals, waters (in city), Rotterdam, Grote or Sint-Laurenskerk (Rotterdam), A monochrome sketch shows a riverside scene with a stone bridge and arched openings, a tall vertical building with simple rectangular window slits, and smaller adjacent structures with pitched roofs. Several boats with masts are moored along the curved riverbank, their hulls and rigging rendered in dark linear strokes. Figures are sketched on the quay, one shown walking and a few standing nearby. A large tree with flowing, textured branches and leaves rises at the right edge, its trunk and limbs drawn with bold curving lines. Reflections and ripples are suggested on the water surface, and architectural details such as cornices and columned openings appear along the waterfront. The composition is composed of varied pencil or charcoal strokes on a textured paper background.
