Each portrait is an illustration accompanying the biography of an artist or scholar. Most of the portraits were produced by Nicolas de Larmessin (162), 93 by De Boulonois and a third by unidentified printmakers. This concerns an illustration on p. 121, part I., Person, Regino von Prüm, historical persons, abbot, A monochrome engraved portrait shows a right-facing bust of a man wearing a patterned cap and an ornate cloak with swirling floral designs, with closely hatched shading on the face and background; the man's facial features include a prominent nose, defined brow, visible ear, and textured hair at the nape, and he is shown with layered garments and a chain or decorative element at the neck, while below the portrait there is a decorative initial and blocks of printed text.
