A small bell sits on the table surface, along with a few scattered papers and a hand holding a book. Behind them, faces in profile and three-quarter view peer toward the table, some with mustaches and beards and one with spectacles and a receding hairline. The background is densely hatched, creating a dark field behind the figures, while the overall image uses crosshatching and delicate scratches to define hair, clothing, and facial features.
