Behind the harp a child leans forward over sheet music on a stand. To the left an older man reclines in a chair with a relaxed posture and a small table beside him. The room features patterned wallpaper, a clock mounted on the wall, decorative moldings above a fireplace, framed portraits and vases on a mantel, and scattered furnishings including rugs and a small stool. The figures wear historical clothing with flowing coats, long skirts, and detailed hair styles, and the drawing uses fine crosshatching and line work to render textures and shadows.
