Around the crosses are several clothed and armored men, some holding spears and one seated on a horse whose head is visible in the lower left; one man in armor appears to be driving a spear or staff, and another figure climbs a ladder propped against a cross. In the foreground a grieving female figure stands with her head tilted and eyes closed, draped in flowing robes, while a smaller nude figure reaches upward toward the central cross. The sky above is dark and heavily hatched, and the whole scene is rendered with dense cross-hatching and fine line work that emphasizes musculature, drapery folds, and the textures of wood and metal.
