His right arm rests on an ornate table with a decorative edge, and his left hand holds a closed book. On the table beside his arm are a small open case and round objects arranged nearby. Behind and to the side of the man stands a nude male statue draped with a cloth, positioned on a plinth. The scene is rendered in sepia tones with a plain, darker background.
