Sl: Vereeniging der Antwerpsche Etsers, 1882-1883., ornament, cartouche, child, coat of arms (as symbol of the state, etc.), A sepia-toned engraved illustration shows an ornate composition with a young girl seated on a scrolllike surface, reaching upward with one hand toward a small flying bird while holding a branch in the other hand; she wears a short-sleeved dress and boots with visible laces and has wavy hair. Surrounding her are elaborate swirling floral and foliate decorations that curl and loop across the image, interweaving with a dark shield-shaped cartouche that contains lighter ornamental shapes. Above the shield a winged animal head with horns rests on a crown, framed by more curved foliage. Decorative ribbons and scrolls arc across the top and sides, and an elaborately carved ornamental element with flowing curves appears near the lower right. The background is filled with fine hatch lines.
