Each portrait is an illustration accompanying the biography of an artist or scholar. Most of the portraits were produced by Nicolas de Larmessin (162), 93 by De Boulonois and a third by unidentified printmakers. This concerns an illustration on p. 462, part II., Person, Otto van Veen, historical persons, portrait, self-portrait of artist, A sepia-toned engraved portrait shows a middle-aged man with a short beard and mustache wearing a close-fitting cap and a large pleated ruff collar, dressed in dark, textured robes with visible buttons down the front; he is seated and turned slightly to one side, gazing outward with a calm expression while one hand rests on a closed book on a flat surface, and the background features finely hatched horizontal lines.
