Each portrait is an illustration accompanying the biography of an artist or scholar. Most of the portraits were produced by Nicolas de Larmessin (162), 93 by De Boulonois and a third by unidentified printmakers. This concerns an illustration on p. 103, part II., Person, Pieter van Foreest, historical persons, physician, doctor, A monochrome engraving of an older man shown from the chest upward wearing a rounded, padded cap and a fur-lined robe, with a full beard and mustache, braided hair peeking from under the cap, and a solemn facial expression, set within a lined rectangular frame and surrounded by blank margins and blocks of printed text below.
