View of the Amstel and the Zuiderkerk tower, print, printmaker: Frans Schikkinger, 1867 - 1902, paper, etching, drypoint, intaglio printmaking technique, height 159 mm x width 240 mm, canals, waters (in city), tower, clock tower, monumental adornment, Amsterdam, Binnen-Amstel, Zuiderkerk (Amsterdam), Amstel Hotel, Professor Tulpplein, A sepia-toned etching shows a waterfront scene with boats moored in the foreground, their sails and masts rendered in dark, sketchy lines; a wide expanse of water reflects the boats and the distant shoreline. Low, densely drawn buildings line both sides of the water, with a taller tower rising near the center background. A large multi-story building with many windows occupies the right side, and smaller clustered structures extend along the left bank. Thin vertical lines suggest chimneys and flagpoles along the skyline, and textured, horizontal strokes fill the sky above.
