Faces show open mouths and animated gestures as the crowd presses forward from both sides into the foreground, while more rows of figures and flags extend into the distance. Buildings and a church spire appear faintly on the right horizon, and tents or makeshift structures line that area, while darker masses of people and raised standards fill the left background beneath a brooding sky. The ground in the immediate foreground is textured with stones and uneven patches.
