Street view with canal in Leeuwarden, photograph, Leeuwarden, 1890 - 1910, photographer, paper, pasteboard, daylight collodion silver print, height 122 mm x width 170 mm, height 144 mm x width 198 mm, canals, waters (in city), church (exterior), A canal runs down the center of the scene with calm reflective water and a small rowboat moored at the near edge, bordered by stone embankments and walkways. Lining both sides of the canal are narrow multi-story brick buildings with tiled roofs, shuttered windows, and awnings extending over the sidewalk. Several leafy trees stand near the left bank, partially obscuring some building facades. A stone pedestrian bridge arches over the canal further back, and beyond it a tall ornate church tower rises against a pale sky. Numerous people occupy the sidewalks and embankments wearing period clothing, with some standing in groups, some seated, and a few children visible near the foreground. Benches, carts, and street lamps are present along the walkways, and reflections of the buildings and trees appear in the water.
