Near the bright opening, small groups of figures walk along the floor, some silhouetted, some leading an animal-drawn cart topped with a rounded load. Closer to the foreground, a cluster of figures stand near a large open doorway with an arched top and barred gate partially ajar, light spilling across the stone threshold. Along the right foreground, a person gestures while a group of small animals moves ahead in formation, casting elongated shadows on the ground. The scene is monochromatic with strong contrasts of light and dark and textured brushwork on the vaulted walls.
