To the left of the arch a building with a tiled roof and a barred window sits partially in view, with a narrow staircase and railing leading up beside it. Through the arch opening a tree-lined avenue extends toward a distant multi-tiered tower visible above the tree canopy, and low buildings with tiled roofs line the right side beyond the arch. In the foreground a dirt path runs under the arch and a solitary figure in dark clothing stands near the base of the structure holding a long object, with earthen embankments and scattered stones along the road. The sky above is pale and mostly empty.
