His folded arms rest on his knees. A cloth is wrapped around his head. The man on the right is wearing a high-hung loincloth, part of which hangs over his left hip, leaving his legs bare. A cloth (chadar) is draped over his head, covering his back and left shoulder. The man is sitting on the ground as if cross-legged. His arms rest relaxed on and around one knee each. The men are likely from South India and were put to work in Colombo on reconstruction. The figure on the right is partially draped in a flowing cloth that covers the head and falls over the shoulder, one hand touching the rock and the other resting near a bent knee, showing visible musculature and a downward gaze. The rocky foreground has shaded crevices and textured surfaces, and the background is mostly empty with a light, even tone.
