Lantin, Antwerp, clichémaker: Joseph Maes, 1894, paper, collotype, photoprint, height 160 mm x width 220 mm, world fair, world exhibition, exhibition, show, A large interior space with a high vaulted ceiling composed of repeating trusses extends into the distance, framed by a rounded dark border at the top edges. In the foreground a multi-sided pavilion with balustraded upper railings and tall columns supporting a small domed cupola stands prominently, with hanging plants placed near its corners. Glass display cases and framed artworks are arranged along the floor area, and a few freestanding decorative streetlamp-like structures rise near the pavilion. Ornate painted panels with floral and bird motifs decorate a wall to the right, and tall windows admit light behind the decorative elements. Various small objects and fixtures are visible on tables and inside display areas, and the overall scene has a sepia-toned, antique photographic appearance.
